“Columns of Air” is a playful reinterpretation and auralization of the archetypal creation myth. Breath animates a cacophony of woodwinds and vocal cords. Through a process of mutation, (or if we dare say transubstantiation) these familiar instruments re-identify as sound objects ranging from masses to particles. These mutations, made in the image of their predecessors, wax and wane with their genesis. Natural and artificial sounds convolve into self-generating hermaphroditic knowers and doers that force us to hold onto whatever we can claim as inherently ours, particularly our memories and dreams.
